Set students up for success in AP with fall exam registration.

Schools that ask students to sign up for the exam in the fall boost their students’ chances of earning a score that translates to college credit. That’s why more than half of schools offering AP already do it.

A new timeline for the 2019-20 school year and fees for late registration and exam cancellation will support students and schools in that effort. Both changes help teachers create a classroom culture where students are committed and engaged.

It all starts with joining the online system. It only takes five minutes to unlock new digital tools and resources that students, teachers, and coordinators can use throughout the year, including an AP question bank and online exam registration and ordering.

Here’s How to Set Your School Up for Success

  1. Principals share changes to AP with school community
Begin communicating new AP Exam ordering deadlines, policies, and fees to students and parents. Don’t forget to share this information with homeschooled students, self-study students, and any other students who wish to test at your school. If you send students elsewhere to take an exam, make sure they receive instructions for registering for exams at the place where they’ll take the test.
FAQ: What should schools tell teachers, parents, and students about the changes?
FAQ: When should schools communicate the changes to their communities?

  1. Principals facilitate training
Connect AP teachers and coordinators with training resources throughout the year, including videos, live online sessions, online tutorials, and in-person coordinator workshops and APSIs.
  2. Teachers explore information for their subject on AP Central
Teachers should explore personalized information about the new resources, key dates, and any course and exam changes. New and updated course and exam descriptions (CEDs) and interactive tutorials will be added to AP Central in May. Teachers can preorder a free print copy of the CEDs with unit guides.
  3. Coordinators enroll in coordinator training
Coordinators should enroll in live online sessions to get up to speed on changes in the exam registration and ordering process.
Face-to-face coordinator training workshops will be taking place across the country, with registration opening in February.

Exam Fees for 2019-20

The exam fee and fee reduction haven’t changed for the 2019-20 school year, but we’re introducing two new fees. Students are more likely to stay engaged in class and tackle challenging topics head-on when they register in the fall, and these fees ensure that students don’t wait until the last minute to make a decision.

Type Description Cost per Exam
On-time order Exam ordered by November 15 $94
Late order Exam ordered between November 16 and March 13 $94+$40 fee
Unused/Canceled exam Exam canceled or not taken by the student $40
